How does PointClickCare calculate MDS schedules?

← All FAQs

How the schedule is built

PointClickCare uses payer information, census events, and existing locked MDS records to calculate schedules under CMS RAI rules. It checks for an existing record associated with the census event; when a required record is absent, the schedule shows the last possible ARD/Target Date.

View the schedule

  1. Open Clinical → MDS → Scheduled and expand the resident with +.
  2. Alternatively, open Clinical → Resident → MDS and expand Next Tckng/Dschrg.
  3. Review the schedule alongside the resident’s MDS list and census information.

Resolve discrepancies

Work with the MDS coordinator and the person responsible for Census/Rates. Recalculate Schedule rebuilds the schedule using census and locked MDS records.

PointClickCare advises against resetting the MDS Calendar or clearing the Medicare schedule as routine troubleshooting. Clear All Schedules should be used only after all required records are complete; clearing a visible overdue item can hide other tracking/discharge schedules.

For hospital transfers, the documented scheduler considers elapsed time and Outcome of Transfer. Under 24 hours, a blank or admitted outcome still creates tracking/discharge schedules; ED Visit Only or Other has different behavior. Review the actual census entries and applicable CMS requirements rather than applying a simple 24-hour rule.

Use the CMS manual effective for the assessment date. For current resources, see MDS and PDPM resources.
